what percentage, and what are the unused parts called? What are their functions?

  1. No, that's a total myth comedians and just average people like to throw around.... and unfortunately, its gotten so popular that even some doctors believe it! A person uses 100% of their brain that is usable. If there is a damaged section of the brain, then obviously you can't use that section.

    Although not 100% of the brain isn't used for thought processes, 100% of the brain is used for everything including body regulation, thought, perception, among many of things. The brain is very busy.... too busy for it to only utilize 10%!

You do use all of your brain, just not all for thinking.  In your brain, the neurons are the cells involved in conducting impulses.  They're notoriously finicky cells, so they require a lot of "support cells," called glial cells, to keep them running, to act as an immune system, and to provide structural support.  The glial cells are vital to the functioning of the brain, but they don't do any of the "thinking."

  3. That is a myth.

    Everyone uses 100% of his or her brain 100% of the time.
