I hear about "liberal" or "modern" muslims.. what does that mean?

they have s*x before marriage, drink alcohol or what? i don't get it do you?

  2. They're usually Munafiqs (hypocrits), they pretend to be outwardly Muslim and may follow all of the 5 pillars but really they do not believe in Allah's will.

    To me, Liberalism and Islam conflict on too many levels for a person to be both.

    It's like being a Republicanist-Democrat or a Commnuistic-Fascist.

    How can you have s*x before marriage and drink and still call yourself a Muslim?

    Those things are prescribed as Haraam by the Quran.

    People who do that are not Muslims in the least, don't consider them as such.

  3. Liberal or modern Muslims are Muslims who are not so strict about their religion, i.e. they don't follow it strictly by the book. They follow certain basic aspects of the religion and are generally quite nice people to get on with as they are quite relaxed (a bit like me I suppose).

    I get a lot of different answers when asking..I don't think anyone knows but the ones who set the movement up.

    I've heard them on the radio before, arguing about what the hadiths intended for women.

  9. "Muslim" is a complete word, it doesn't need any adjectives, prefixes or suffixes added.

    Islam is by default a moderate religion, it doesn't tend to any extremity.

    now the problem here is what would be the next defination,of liberalism,perhaps it would be incest,or s*x with animals !

    where as incest is slowly creeping in western society,and animal s*x can be seen in p**n.both are NOT considered crime in the said societies.there is NO word as sin,in western mindset,perhaps liberalism mean free from the guilt of sin.and the govts.support this freedom,i trust

    I totally agree with Sami answer but I will improve on it because it needs refining on it. "Muslim" is a complete word, it doesn't need any adjectives, prefixes or suffixes added.

    Nothing should be added at all to the word "Muslim" or the word "Islam" either. It is clever think tanks from various countries in the world are trying to promote a new type of terminology to tackle Terrorism which is absolutely wrong indeed.

    We all fully agree that Terrorism needs to be tackle, we all need wisdom, we all need patience, we all need harmony because we all agree on true justice in this world.  

    For example, which I have seen in various International newspapers now - the terms of Fundamentalists, Secularists, Traditionalists, Modernists classifying Muslims into brackets or category boxes which is totally wrong indeed. What we all should be looking at seriously is - who willing be advocating violence or who is not advocating violence? That is the real question?

    You cannot measure people faith that is totally impossible and highly unfeasible and only Allah or God alone knows this answer fully.  You might know there are deep or not deep but generally that is it.  It is impossible and it is totally wrong to do this type of profiling or religious classification.

    If it is way to tackle Terrorism then it should be judge on what people do not how they look like or what they believe in. Judge each individual or people differently like a hurricane is completely different from another hurricane. It is not the same at all.      

    Islam is by default a moderate religion, it doesn't tend to any extremity. Extremity is where ones result in ones violence harming the innocent and doing terrorism. Where Terrorism is completely forbidden in the Holy Qur'an.

    Liberal or Modern Muslims which is totally wrong to have this definition and it is trap to promote this type of new terminology in the first place. I do not like the terms at all because it has an agenda to divide Muslims into groups which is totally wrong indeed. Yes, there are a few of non-practising Muslims who have basically adopted approach that does not follow or not serious or not strict about the faith or religion at all or does not follow some aspects of the faith or religion at all. They do not follow it strictly the Holy Qur'an and the five pillars of Islam which is the 1) Declaration of Faith, 2) The Five compulsory Daily prayers, 3) Welfare Contribution, 4) Pilgrimage to Makkah, 5) Fasting during the month of Ramadhan. The Five Pillars as mentioned in the Hadiths.  

    The Wishy Washy Muslims - Muslims that are not practising at all but promote opposite to Islamic values or people pretending to be Muslims or people have blatant prejudice or people have blatant Islamophobia  - undercover agents who are targetting the Muslim communities which was stated in the several newspapers due to Cultural Pollution and the total fear of Muslims.

    Muslims are fully aware of the Anti-Muslim propaganda campaign from various interest groups. Also undercover agents from various countries from around the world which do not like Muslims at all as well as do not have activity file on Yahoo answers strangely enough. Who are they working for? What is their secret agenda? What is their secret objective? I am not an extremist in the sense of harming the innocent or doing violence but curious about these troublemakers and problemakers are now which are building up a false sense of propaganda now which will not be tolerated at all. Hide behind names for their secret objective and false propaganda which I have notice now Yahoo answers which I am not frightened to mention it.

    Thaey are both the same.

  13. They live according to the current times. They still follow Islam, but in a way compatible with current times. They don't have s*x before marriage, or drink or do any sin.

  15. In my opinion they represent a body of enlightened men and women who have realised that Islam is as phony as Christianity, Judaism or any other religion and govern their own behaviour by conscience.

    What's wrong with s*x before marriage anyway, as long as it doesn't hold up the ceremony!
