I hear that you can block annoying internet ads by using Firefox. Is this true?

Supposedly, you can use firefox as your browser and install an extention thingy called adblock and then you can surf the internet and not be bothered by obnoxious annoying advertising.

Sounds like it could be useful. I often like to mute the sound when I'm watching TV and it goes to commercial.

Stands to reason, you should be able to control the ads you look at on the internet as well.

Anyone tried this?

  1. actually joem, you do not need to go through clicking on all the specific ads to block them with adblock, first you can create wildcards using '*' but better than that, you can use

    filterset G. for adblock.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1136/

    http://www.pierceive.com/

or you can upgrade to adblock plus.  In which case, fliterset G. is not recomended but there are several flitersets available for it as well.

  2. yup its true. You can block images from specific servers...i.e right click on a banner ad and you wont receive ads from that server anymore...takes a few times to get all of the image servers from Yahoo for examle, but it works great. As for the Flash ads, I use a program called Flashblock that blocks all flash content, but allows the option to allow flash from sites you want. I never see ads while surfing and its truely awesome!

  3. If you update to the new IE 7, you will get the same level of ad blockage as Firefox.  Although I like Firefix over IE for other reasons.

However, most of the time if a person is getting a lot of ads, they have a spyware program installed on their PC.

Try downloading and running the free spyware scanners Skybot Seek&Destroy and Ad-aware SE Personal from http://download.com.  Between them they would clear any spyware programs off your PC.

  4. Is this a spam from FireFoX??? Of course you can block ads. You can also have 1-click info search on a page....and much more. Evolve!....step up from MS-Sheep to FireFox!!

This message is not related to any FireFox supporter...I an just a fan!

  5. Yes ................use the add ons for flash block and ad block.
