I hear voices..but they are familiar voices of people I love and are in my life everyday...what is this?

For example, I've heard my son say my name and he has avery deep recognizable voice...I've heard my boss laughing while I'm sitting at my desk and she is 1000 miles away on a business trip, but I know its' her laugh its sooo distinctive...sometimes it's a whisper, sometimes its loud...but I just don't have ANY idea what it could be...does anyone have ANY ideas?

I don't know if this is the same. Sometimes it has seemed like I've heard my son call me (when he's not here). He always yells"MA !" (in normal life). And that's what I hear. But , he HASN'T called me. So I don't know. I've never given it too much thought  (after I found out he WASN'T calling me.) Maybe some voices etc. get magnified in our heads.BTW he has never woke me up with that . But I HAVE been woke up by someone calling my name.(when I was about to miss going to church)I've wondered if you can be so close to somebody in spirit (when you're both alive) that you can communicate long distance..or even short distances.

EDIT to 333...my d in law does that!! She hears EVERYTHING.(esp. if you don't want her to) lol

It could be something as simple as your imagination.  It could also be something as concerning as a phychiatric condition.

Well either you have clairaudience or you should tell you doctor about this.

Your mind (brain) is recalling occurences it is normal to some people like thinking outloud,Now if they were voices u did not know then worry.....lol

I have done that once before,I guess it's were we are used to hearing those sounds.If you do that often I recommend that you talk to a doctor about it,some mental illness have those symptoms.It doesn't hurt to have it checked out.

I have that happen all the time, but have no clue as to what it is.

I think it's a special kind of memory. because I have that sort of thing with music.  I'll be walking along thinking I'm listening to a CD, then I realize I'm only remembering the music, but very clearly.  It creeps me out when it happens.  Maybe because these are voices of people really close to you, so there's an emotional content to thinking about them.  And so you remember their voices more intensely.  Does that make sense?  It's late.

I have had this happen to me a few times. I think that sometimes it is the ghosts imitating a voice.... may be , maybe not. If you are in your office, this seems a highly unlikely scenario. I am not sure what it is about. Were they thinking of you at the same time?

One thing to consider is that you are hearing an unfamiliar sound, and your brain interprets it as the closest familiar sound that it can.

that sometimes happens to me, all of a sudden ill pick up on a far away voice...i dont really know what it is, but i call it heightened hearing...say my sister is down the street a little i can sometimes pick up her conversation...and shes not screaming just talking to someone...its kind of a weird sensation...
