  1. That's not necessarily true.  In fact, I used the Princeton Review books and my practice test scores were always lower than my real SAT scores.  I think that they might scale up the difficulty in order to better prepare you (like, overprepare you) or pleasantly surprise you when you get your score back, and you did better than you were expecting based on practice test scores.  On an actual exam, you'd probably get something close to a 1650--it's a tough call to make, and it depends on a lot of things like how you think and how the tests are scaled on the particular day that you take them.

  2. I did Kaplan for the GMAT (for grad school), and my practice scores were slightly lower than my real score. Of course, I studied like crazy, did all the homework for the course, and busted a gut the day of the exam. But I had seen so many permutations of the questions by the day of the exam that even though there was at least one type of problem I consistently had trouble solving, I got the right answer because I was used to looking at hundreds of questions. So I think the value of the courses is to accustom you to seeing the questions.

So to answer your question, it depends on how much effort you put in between now and the day of the test. Based on what you're saying, you are a high achiever, so go for it!

  3. Obviously, the questions are going to be different, and the difficulty levels can only be measured by each individual's strengths and weaknesses. So what one person may perceive as difficult another may see as simple. What you heard was just some people's reaction to the SATs, but it may not necessarily apply to you.

You will probably get a little lower on the actual exam, perhaps a 1590 or 1600, but your practice score is a pretty good indicator of what you can expect.
