  1. I've never heare'd of it, not even in the news, please give any links to read.

  2. It is always this way. All protest when something new crops up.

Australia criticized IPL. At the same time at least 80,000 watched the IPL matches towards the beginning. Later reports, I do not know.

Now that IPL is a success in India, Aust, Eng and other countries will pick up too.

  3. no, aussie can't host a cricket tournament like IPL as market for cricket is very small there( Aussie poulation = 1/40 of india & cricket is 4th popular game there )

only india can host such a rich cricket tournament

  4. Yeah theres been talk around for some time now, but whether its serious or not is another matter.

  5. I think it will be difficult for Australia to hold a premier league. I don't think Australia has enough interest in the sport to stage an event like the IPL. Indians are fanatics and thats why their stadiums are packed week after week. In Australia we have had some success with the odd Twenty20 game, but its interesting to see it applied in a tournament context.

But do think CA is in talks with an American millionaire to consider a similar tournament in Aus. Just read from the news a while ago after the start of the IPL.

  6. Yes.  Seeing the success of IPL, Australia and England too are considering setting up their own T20 tournament similar to IPL.

  7. Yes. http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australi...

It is not going to be like the proposed English Premier (T20) League which is set to 'rival' the IPL its more a reengineering and enhancement of our existing Domestic T20 tournament which is called the Big Bash. The Big Bash is the most popular tournament of all formats of cricket in Australia with a huge rejuvenation in match attendances. Obviously Cricket Australia want to capitalise on this and are considering the following: extending the tournament to 3-4 weeks, a team from NZ, City franchises, 10-15M salary cap per team etc

My thoughts are it will resemble the Pro20 series in South Africa though with more money.

There is a possibility of attracting overseas players from the Northern Hemisphere as during our summer it is winter up there however I'm not aware of this being a set objective of Cricket Australia.

Once again this will not be a rival tournament to the IPL, even the Australian Cricket Players Association see a potential  Aussie Premier League as a third tier tournament behind the proposed EPL and ultimately the IPL.

  8. Lured by the success of the Indian Premier League, Cricket Australia has started the ground work for staging its own version of the Twenty20 tournament within two to three years.

The CA would retain some facets of the USD two billion rich IPL but also bring in some fresh ideas in the tournament, which may be spanning over three to four weeks.

The competition is likely to be staged during the Australian summer when home Test stars are available, and also it would not clash with the IPL.

CA spokesman Peter Young said an investigation to stage an IPL-like tournament was underway and they have already started to lay down their ideas.

"In reality we have taken a blank sheet of paper and say, 'what might a domestic Twenty20 competition look like?" Young told The Advertiser.

Australian players' union boss Paul Marsh had made a call last month for CA to look into hosting its own international Twenty20 tournament.

"It could be like soccer. The Indian league will be the Indian Premier League, and then you have the Australian league as the second league, or the English league or whatever it may be," Marsh said.

  9. Yeah man if ya got some sort of link can ya put it up,i hav'nt  heard nothin of us gonna start up our own sort of 20/20 stuff.

  10. yes they r planning
