im also pretty sure that fats are just really condensed calories.

can anyone clarify if this is true or not?

and if it is, should you not have any form of soda around the time you eat?

what if it has caffine?

i heard that caffine speeds up digestion, how would that factor?

can someone please clarify?

  1. Sodas can make you fat because of the high sugar content.  They are carbs not can't make calores sitck to each other.

    the only reason that soda would make you fat is if you don't  burn off the calories that the soda gave you.

  3. fats are not condensed calories although it takes more energy to burn fat than it does starches... as you said in your first statement MYTH about soda causing calories to stick together. Calories are a measurement system to tell you how much energy it will take you to burn off what you are eating! Soda has a lot of "calories" because it has a lot of sugar in it. If you have too much sugar your body will convert it to fat to store it.... that's why people who drink a lot of soda tend to be a big chubbier than those that don't drink it. As for eating it with meals...that's just more sugar your putting into your body with the meal! Caffeine puts a short burst of energy into your system but then you have a crash... it's different for everyone... Caffeine occurs naturally in foods like tea, coffee and chocolate although it's added to things like soda for flavoring and the buzz it gives you!!!!

  4. Fat is like a storage balloon for the fuel in your food.  If you don't use it your body usually stores it.  If the storage tank is empty, you will be skinny.  If it is overflowing, you will be very fat.

    Calorie is a measure  of how much fuel is in your food.

    I don't know about speeding up digestion.  Caffeine  makes the BODY go faster, and burn up calories, by waking you up.  Note that this only happens when you move around.  Anything that makes you move burns calories.

    Calories are not physical things. It is energy/fuel. The amount of calories in food and drink is how much fuel that item gives to your body. You burn calories/fuel doing different things and processing food.

    Basically if you expend more energy than the food gives you then you loose weight. If you consume more fuel than your body needs then you gain weight. The excess food is stored as fat and is made of up the stuff that you eat and drink and not of calories. Although it will take calories to remove the fat and that fat is considered to contain caloires it still is not a physical thing you can look at and point to and say "hey look, a calorie".

  6. Technically I believe that a "calorie" is really just a unit of measurement (like an "inch", "yard" or "kilowatt") of energy that it would take to burn off a particular (food) substance. Since a calorie is not a tangible item (something you could touch, taste or feel) the answer to your question would be "NO".

    Also, contrary to what you assumed, fats are not "just really condensed calories". Fat is a natural substance that helps the body with several functions like: storage of energy (fat cells), insulation (helps to keep the body warm), protection (certain areas of the body tend to have more fat for that reason). Fat is necessary to the human body. Example if a woman has too little body fat, her menstruation cycle would not continue. It is the signal that the body is not in proper healthy condition in which to have a baby. Too much fat on the body IS harmful.

    Sodas in MODERATION (1-2 a week) are not harmful. If you are caffeine sensitive, then you should avoid them. Simple as that.
