  1. white bread is bad 4 u cuz da bread is bleached. wheat bread is the actual color of the bread so its healthier but ur not suppsd 2 eat a lot of bread cuz of all da stuff in da bread

  2. It's only been consumed for about 6 millenia with no obvious detriment to homo sapiens.

White bread or any bread using enriched flour is not as healthy as whole wheat or multi-grain bread.

  3. Dark bread and wheat bread is very healthy,it's just the kind made with white flour, isn't as healthy.

  4. White bread is generally considered bad.  But anything is alright in moderation.  Stick with whole grain breads.  Read the labels because some brands claim to be whole grain when, in fact, they are basically white bread with wheat color.

  5. Not true at all.  Some commercial white breads contain bleach to make them bright white which obviously is not good.  As long as it's any kind but those you are fine, in general bread and baked goods, especially ones with whole grain are good for you and part of a balanced diet.

  6. All breads are not created equal, and freshly baked doesn't mean it is better for you.

The bread you buy from supermarkets and your average bread shop are made from bleached white flour, with added air, fat, bread improver, mould retardant, and did I say air? Instead of allowing the dough to rise, they jam it full of fat, then force air into it. The air makes it rise, the fat keeps it there. It's nothing but carbohydrate, fat and some weird chemicals. Not really food, if you think too much about it.

If, however, you save up and buy a grain mill and make your own bread, it's another story. In order to give flour a shelf life longer than about 3 days, one must remove the oily part of the seed, where most of the nutrients are. If you grind it yourself, or with the help of a handy power socket, you are converting whole grain to flour, but keeping the bran (fibre) and the oily part with all the vitamins.

It will make bread that is much denser than you are used to, but geez its good! It may be hard to get used to bread that doesn't come sliced, but there is no law that says one must eat bread in slices. You can eat a chunk of it with cheese and olives, and be very happy afterwards. REAL bread is a wonderful thing. It does take a while to get good at it, but the mistakes are very rarely inedible. I used to make a nice oat/wheat bread and this week I'm going to try a wheat/barley loaf. I got a new cookbook :)

  7. not true, but you should restrict your bread intake to 100%whole wheat. 1) for the roughage 2) for the nutrients 3) less sugar

  8. As with anything, the key is to eat a balanced diet.  Obviously eating nothing BUT bread would be bad.  Combined with other foods, there's nothing wrong with it.  It's one of our oldest foods, in fact.

That said, some breads are healthier for you than others.  If you're going to eat bread, at least eat REAL bread - not stuff like Wonder which is little more than processed corn syrup and chemicals.  The same goes with the hamburger buns at most fast food restaurants.  In fact, did you know the bun of a McDonalds hamburger has more calories than the hamburger patty itself?  Yet it basically has ZERO nutritious value - just sugar, carbohydrates, and lots and lots of chemical preservatives!

Instead, buy the freshly made bread from your local bakery or grocery store.  It won't keep as long (no chemicals) but is made with better ingredients, and is healthier for you.  Besides, there are tons of recipes that call for stale bread - french toast, bread pudding, stuffing, or just toss it in the blender to make your own bread crumbs for meatloaf, meat balls, "shake & bake" type chicken/pork coating....

Bread is mostly carbohydrates (which is why the Atkins crowd won't touch it) but also contains vitamins and fiber.  White bread removes most of the fiber and vitamins because of the way the flour has been processed, which is why it's not as healthy for you, but even a bakery-made loaf of white bread will be better for you than most industrial loaves sitting on the shelf.

Personally, I like a good crusty sourdough or French loaf.  Trust me, once you've had real bread, you won't want to go back to that indestructible, tasteless stuff on the shelves ever again.

  9. It depends on a lot of different factors.

  10. no

  11. maybe white bread is bad. but wheat bread is supposed to good for you!

  12. Its not bad for you but if you are on one of those Fancy so called diets, you should probably stay away from it because it has lots of carbs. I dont think that diets or diet food even work. Its all a lot of bull. You should eat healthy, more often with smaller portions to keep your metabolism going because thats what makes your body burn fat, a fast metabolism. Once your metabolism slows down your body gets prepared to store the fat that enters it,  hence starvation diets are bad for you. You actually gain more weight starving yourself then you would by eating right. My solution is to eat right and exercise. Lol, sorry kind of got off track there.

  13. If bread wasnt healthy it wouldnt have been at the bottom of the food pyramid...

  14. some breads are high in fat like brioche, which has tons of butter, but usually whole grains and wheat breads are really good for you. but don't exclude all breads because most are good for you, just depends on what you put on them

  15. a lot of carbs
