It is supposed to have something to do with a new law or something?

  1. I fly home to Dublin regularly and have not heard of this... but if you want cheap travel to Ireland, sign up to the Aer Lingus travel alert promo emails - they often offer flights for as little as 1 pound (not incl. taxes) - sign up here: http://www.aerlingus.com/cgi-bin/obel01i...

  2. I presume you are talking about flights from America, if so what you have heard about is the "open skies" agreement.

Previously there were agreements between American and European Governments on the number of flights and routes which airlines could aperate between america and europe.

However this has been abolished, now airlines are free to fly as much as they want and beween whatever cities they want.

This should lead to lower fares and greater choice as more firms enter the market to compete. This of course depends on where you are flying from and to.Less profitable routes between smaller cities may be cancelled as airlines will no longer be required by law to serve these destinations i.e flights between Shannon and the U.S will be greatly reduced.

However prices to Dublin should decrease over time as more airlines enter the market. Howver this may take some time.

personally I believe the first effects will be seen between Heathrow and the U.S, as Heathrow is a major hub there will be countless airlines willing to get in on this lucrative market therefore prices should reduce in the not too distant future.

If this does happen it may be worth your while flying to London and getting a connecting flight to Ireland.
