If so, would the disease carry to human? I know they bite domesticated animals, cows, and pigs. Thanks for the help. I want to know if I should fear them or not. They are huge and scary looking. Mature answers only.

  1. Yes, and their bites are painful. They tend to stay away from light. I have never heard of them carrying diseases. All they do is drink blood.

  2. Yeah they do bite people one time when i was younger i got one on my eye but i got it off before it bit me it wasnt fun i dont think they spread desieses but they maybe could

  3. It is true. You should avoid them.

  4. Yes, bite people. Horseflies and deerflies (related) give painful bites due to type of mouthparts - (think of scissor blades scicing up and down). Can carry disease and parasite but very very rare in US. Can carry Trpanasome - primarily Cent Aerica and SA, also can (not US) carry a form of anthrax.

From a realistic point - in US -not disease or parasite risk, but does hurt. Larval stage develops in faster moving streams, so thats usually where you find the most.
