  1. I lived and worked illegally in Amsterdam for almost a year. You get nothing. Ironically, I registered with the police as an illegal and carried my documentation around with at all times as required. However I was on my own for money to buy food and shelter. If I had stayed long enough I could have gone to them and gotten permission to reside in the country permanently but I left before the required amount of time had passed.

  2. You have to be kidding!

No, I can give you an 100% assurance that they do not give money for being foreign.  My husband is non-EU and to get the permits and everything it cost a small fortune (even though he is working for the UN here!)

Your comment about lightly populated - it is actually one of the most densely populated countries in the total Europe.  Out of 241 measured, NL is 25th most densely populated, and the highest in Western Europe (excluding the Monaco's, Vatican city etc)

In fact immigration laws have been consistently tightened in the last 10 years (but of course EU law is applied and respected)

The economy here is still very good and a good balance between workers and job opportunities.  Therefore there is no reason to offer foreigners money!  (Dutch taxpayers would be the first to complain bitterly if this were the case, I can assure you!)

So, I don't know where you got this from, but it is totally wrong

EDIT - Asylum?  The Irish government/authorities are not exactly reknown for persecution.  Claiming Asylum is not a paryy these days. You are treated one step higher than someone in prison (if that) until your case is proven (or if not then deported).  Anyway if you are a genuine refugee you should flee to the nearest country.... there is a small matter of Northern Ireland/UK in the middle!  Travelling as an EU tourist until you reach NL and then shouting asylum because you think you will get some money?????  .............Well good luck with that one, put it that way, you'll need a lot of luck!

  3. If it were true, The Netherlands would have a billion people entering tomorrow.  Use your head.

  4. No, it is not true.

  5. Yes it is true.

  6. That is a very strange way of putting things. I would most certainly not agree to state that the Dutch government pays people money because they are a foreigner living in their country. The Dutch are a very open minded, modern and generous people, but I believe most would be horrified to hear these kinds of rumors.

The Dutch, like many European countries, have immigration laws. Sometimes, in certain countries, wars will break out, or civil unrest and some people will become the victims of other groups in power and get persecuted, threatened with torture and death. When these people ask for political asylum, the Dutch Government will help these victims, who often have to flee their country of origin to stay alive.

So, yes, in some cases, a foreign national will receive the means to live and survive with dignity. If an alien enters the country and he has not complied with immigration laws, he will not automatically become the recipient of free hand outs.
