  1. its a francise. you buy the business plan, and the parent company supports you. you actually own that outlet, but you must pay respect to your parent organisation. you cant alter the set menu, uniform, decorations etc without express permission from your parent company.

  2. McDonald's and some other restaurants are not 'chain' restaurants... they are franchises.

chains are when they are owned by one person/group of people acting as one

franchises are when individual people can open a restaurant and make it a McDonald's or something.  they pay McDonald's a franchise fee to be able to use their name and to get the free publicity and such.  they also must sign contracts that say they will use certain suppliers, use a set menu, along with a bunch of other rules that are meant to make each restaurant pretty much the same.

no, you cannot buy a Denny's and make it a Chinese restaurant.  that would be against the franchise agreement.

  3. it is franchise, but doing so, you still have to maintain the integrity and the essence of the said company.  like the one you've mentioned, it is not possible for them to change it into a chinese restaurant and just keeping or using the name.

you franchise a product/company, then you serve as an extention from them.  they will still look the same, though the ownership varies.

  4. it is called a franchise

  5. Denny's, McDonalds, etc. are all franchises. You can buy one if you have the money.

In exchange for the money, they help you get started, give you tips, etc. It's your job though to follow their regulations.

You canNOT change a Denny's into a Chinese restaurant and keep the name. When you buy Denny's, you agree to operate the Denny's. Plus, you can't steal the name.

  6. Its a franchise and you have to comply rules, specially on the theme and food.  You can't decide on that.

  8. TRUE but they have to adhere to franchise rules. So if you own a Dennys you have to run it like they tell you too e.g menue, process, even sometimes the floor layout.

  9. It's called a franchise when a company allows individual owners to run restaurants. They have to follow company standards, in order to uphold a certain image or quality that company wants to maintain. No, the owner of a franchise of McDonald's would not be able to turn it in to a Chinese restaurant. People from McDonald's corporate office come and check up on their franchises and expect it to look and run a certain way. The person who owns that respective store can make minor decisions about the store, like how much to pay the employees, but they have to keep the same type of look, food and service that all other McDonald's have. Otherwise it wouldn't be a McDonald's! There are a lot of major companies that work this way, like Starbuck's, Marble Slab, different clothing stores even. It's a great way to try and run your own business, without having to start from scratch and do everything on your own.
