I heard somewhere that some hard alchohol are carb free?

All hard alcohols are carb free, since carbohydrates don't distill.  The only way they have carbs in them is if they are added back in, such as added sweeteners.  Otherwise they are carb free.  Carbohydrates are not volatile, and will not vaporize into a distilled liquid.
