  1. Yes it is true.  People with glaucoma can get a Rx for it.  Marijuana lowers the pressure on the inside of our eyes.  People with glaucoma have high pressures due to the inablility to move the fluid in and out of the eye from small vessels.  Marijuana, opens these vessels making it easier for the "humer" to move in and out.  People that dont get this taken care of are at risk for going blind,  Marijuana is much cheaper than the rx eye drops that are prescribed.

  2. Marijuana is not good for you. Medical marijuana is ok, only if prescribed to you, if not, DON'T DO DRUGS!

  3. Yep, that is 1 of the MANY things pot can help

  4. Mary-jane is a pain reliever. That's about it. It'll make you THINK that you feel better and everything but it honestly just brings upon even worse problems later on in life.

They say that not worrying can add years onto your life. Mary-jane makes you not worry. But kills brain cells and lowers your immune system. So it takes away years of your life.

My uncle smoked it for 30 years. Has a tumor the size of a golf ball in his throat. Doctors said it was because of the smoking. He's now going through chemo and is scheduled for several surgeries. Needless to say, it doesn't have good side-effects later on in life..

Mary-jane is your "mr/ms. right-now" when later you'll be wishing you just had a "mr/ms. right."

  5. Medical Marijuana

Advocates of medicinal marijuana cite evidence that hemp products can lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with glaucoma. However, these products are less effective than safer and more available medicines. Most research regarding marijuana use took place before some current medications with fewer side effects were available.

The high dose of marijuana necessary to produce a clinically relevant effect on IOP in the short term requires constant inhalation, as much as every three hours.

The number of significant side effects generated by long-term oral use of marijuana or long-term inhalation of marijuana smoke make marijuana a poor choice in the treatment of glaucoma, a chronic disease requiring proven and effective treatment.

Currently, marijuana is designated as a Schedule I drug (drugs which have a high potential for abuse and no medical application or proven therapeutic value).

The only marijuana currently approved at the Federal level for medical use is Marinol, a synthetic form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the most active component of marijuana. It was developed as an antiemetic (an agent that reduces nausea used in chemotherapy treatments), which can be taken orally in capsule form. The effects of Marinol on glaucoma are not impressive.

To date, no studies have shown that marijuana— or any of its approximately 400 chemical components—can safely and effectively lower intraocular pressure better than the variety of drugs currently on the market.

Currently, there are no National Eye Institute studies in the United States concerning the use of marijuana to treat glaucoma.

The Glaucoma Research Foundation will continue to monitor the research community for any new and well-designed studies regarding the use of marijuana to effectively treat glaucoma.

    Glaucoma and Marijuana Use

    National Eye Institute

    National Institutes of Health

Glaucoma is an eye disease usually associated with an increased fluid pressure inside the eyes that damages the optic nerve, leading to vision loss or even blindness. The most common form of the disease -- chronic, open-angle glaucoma -- is a leading cause of blindness in the United States and the number one cause of blindness in African Americans.

Studies in the early 1970s showed that marijuana, when smoked, lowered intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with normal pressure and those with glaucoma. In an effort to determine whether marijuana, or drugs derived from marijuana, might be effective as a glaucoma treatment, the National Eye Institute (NEI) supported research studies beginning in 1978. These studies demonstrated that some derivatives of marijuana transiently lowered IOP when administered orally, intravenously, or by smoking, but not when topically applied to the eye.

However, none of these studies demonstrated that marijuana -- or any of its components -- could lower IOP as effectively as drugs already on the market. In addition, some potentially serious side effects were noted, including an increased heart rate and a decrease in blood pressure in studies using smoked marijuana.

A wide variety of therapies are currently used to treat glaucoma, including FDA-approved drugs and laser and conventional surgery. Research to date has not investigated whether marijuana use offers any advantages over currently available glaucoma treatments or if it is useful when used in combination with standard therapies.

The identification of side effects from smoked marijuana, coupled with the emergence of highly effective FDA-approved medications for glaucoma treatment, may have led to diminished interest in this research area.

  6. oh yeah my brother. Magical Herb is good for all kinds of problems.

  7. It is true but there are other methods for treating or preventing glaucoma that is caused by too much pressure in your eyes.  Marijuana helps to reduce the pressure in your eyes and this pressure reduction can also be achieved with Coleus Forte that contains Coleus Forskholii so that may be a much better option than marijuana.  Coleus Forte would be a good supplement for anyone with high blood pressure to reduce the chances of getting glaucoma.

You can get Coleus Forte at Health Stores but you have to ask for it as (in Australia) it is kept behind the counter.

  8. Its good for that and so much more. It is my cure all!

  9. its good on youtube talk is cheap buddy

  10. I have glaucoma ..I am one of those people who had it since puberty ..30 yrs  I smoke weed have no blindness and it lowers my pressures for 14 hours at a time..and that just regular old weed

  11. yes.

They have marijuana vending machines in L.A.
