My dutch friend told me that telephone/mobile isn't popular in Holland cos its expensive. Their communication is more relied on sending cards to each other. I am skeptical about it cos I don't think people will use postcards that often while communication service is so advanced right now.

  1. The phones used to be expensive .....

  2. Well people still have land lines but cell phones weren't crazy popular like they are here in Canada.

Most of my friends had a mobile phone but almost everyone(including myself) had pay as you go because it wasn't exactly cheap. Another problem was the fact that numbers were sooo hard to remember. I didn't even know my own home phone and my friends couldn't even remember their own half the time. It was that whole 10 digit thing.

  3. Dr. House U suck, and no nothing. we use the phone dah!! like everyone. well and UR NOT DR. HOUSE, HE'S HOT UR NOT

  4. That's not true.. even eight-year-olds seem to have a cellphone.. and I don't know one person who doesn't have one.

  5. 15.8 million mobile phone service subscribers in 2005. CIA World Factbook. You might wanna check it out sometime.

  6. Everybody in The Netherlands has a cellphone...

  7. Your friend is absolutely right . Over the centuries we have developed a complicated communication system based on the position of the wings of our windmills. This is taught in first grade and functions beautifully. However for those who happen to not own a windmill there is another system a bit similar to the knot message system of the Incas: we sent various interlaced tulips to the receiver of the message. This system is a bit more difficult and is taught in high school. Why should we spend good money on mobiles I ask you?

  8. That's absolutely ridiculous. Almost everyone in The Netherlands has at least one fixed line phone in their home and most Dutch people have at least one mobile phone too. There's probably very few countries in the World where people have more phones per capita than in the Netherlands and the Dutch telecommunications network, wired and mobile, is one of the best and most advanced in the World. Either your friend is having a joke on you or you're having a joke on us.

    -edit-

lol, I guess so ;-) Just wondering; This wouldn't happen to be the same friend you completely gave up on about a month ago because he told you he'd leave the country when you told him you were coming over, would it?

  9. You probably misunderstood something. That are the "deutsch" (German) people that do not use mobile or cell phones.

    They just have handys.

  10. Hmm..

Come on over, and have a trip on any kind of public transport, or sit outside a bar on Leidseplein in Amsterdam for a while.

You will be able to see firsthand that 'we' do use the cell or mobile phone quite a lot.

Children as young as 9 have one, and you`ll see people walking or cycling  all around you while on the phone. (Them, not you)

In the car as well, although that isn`t legal - and will be fined 130 EURO per occasion (approx. $200).

I really wonder what this friend was on, while he told you this.

Are you sure he was in The Netherlands, and in any kind of populated area?
