  1. Medicare does not cover anything once you leave the country. Since you're going on a cruise why not take out cruise line insurance which usually runs less then 50 dollars per passenger.. I work at a travel agency and one of the insurance companies we offer when dealing with cruises is TravelSafe...they cover up to a million dollars but rates are based on age and cruise price...

  2. True.

Medicare does not cover any medical expenses which will occured outside the USA.

But a Medicare supplement (Medi-Gap) policy would, usually up to $50,000 lifetime.

  3. That's true of just about all health insurance coverage with few exceptions.  This is one of the reasons I stress to my clients to take travel insurance.  If you get sea sick on a cruise and need to go to the dr. on board. the visit could easily cost you $90+, especially if you receive medication.  The same goes for needing medical attention while visiting a foreign country.  You never know when you'll need medical attention while you're at home - why do people think they won't need medical attention when they're on vacation???

People are more likely to injure themselves while on vacation than at home - unfamiliar surroundings, new/different activities, etc.  Travel insurance is a small price to pay and usually less than the cost of a visit to a doctor or hospital in a foreigh country.

  4. Medicare does not cover you outside of the U.S.

Most medicare supplements will cover you (plans A & B do not, the rest do) - you pay a $250 deductible and then you pay 20% until you've paid a maximum of $12,500.

Medicare Advantage plans cover you for emergency and urgent care worldwide; you just pay the co-pay of the plan.
