I heard that on At&t's Sony Ericsson W580i that the keypad or keys break easily? have this been fixed yet?

It depends on wha tyou mean by getting the problem fixed.  AT&T [or SE] provide a warranty that you can send in your phone and get it replaced for a new one.

If by fix you mean change the material used, then no it's not getting fixed because the plastic keypad adds to the lightness of the phone which is one of the selling points.

Alternatively, you can fix it if you buy a 3rd party keypad from phone shops or ebay.  Otherwise no solution.  However the cracked keys [they stay on, just have a crack through the middle] are still functional.
