  1. If your recycling company makes you separate them, then what they probably have is a truck that has multiple (large) bins on it.  The garbage collector takes your bins and walks around the truck, throwing the various stuff into the different bins on the truck.

If it was all going into the same thing, they would not make you separate them.

There are recyclers who do not separate out the glass (you can't really do it after the fact because too many glass itmes break, etc.).  When the glass is melted down, it will be whatever color comes from mixing all the colors.  They will probably get less money for their glass, but to them, the whole separating thing makes it just not worth it.

  2. sorry to say it. but you r****d. if you have ever seen them take the green recycling bins, the lorry is not a dumpster. it has a big cage with separate compartments. and believe it or not the workers actually sort it out. dumbasss.

  3. Seen that done. Also seen domestic brown and black bins emptied into the same truck. Just shows what a sham and scam recycling is.

  4. Everything in my household bin:  Glass, paper, metal, plastic, all goes into the same truck.  It is sorted at the collection center.

  5. i don't know.

  6. The person who came up with the idea for different coloured bins for different coloured glass was obviously not allowed to play with the shape sorter enough at playgroup. Yes they are all emptied into the same truck.

  7. You heard wrong.

The whole disposal bin is taken away full, and empty ones put in their place. The glass is kept separate for recycling.

  8. Beats me. Over here, we put all glass, plastic and cans in one recycling bin.

  9. i have actually seen with my own eyes, the truck lifts each bin up and drops everything into one big container

  10. It seems to depend on where you live. we have a box to put bottles, tin cans and paper in. It is then sorted by into different compartments in the collection truck by the crew and the clear glass is kept seperate from the rest.

  11. Perfectly true, but the truck has sections and each colour goes into a different section just the same as a petrol tanker can carry different types of fuel.

  12. They are then taken to the recycling facility where they are seperated by hand. The glass is some cases is seperated by color and and from the plastics.

  13. Even better here, when mine collect the bottles, cans, plastic etc, they fling them in the same bit, but WE have to spend time separating them or they wont take it!!

    Charming eh?

  14. Urban Myth.

  15. You must also live in Michigan! Where they send recycling trucks to the landfill too!

  16. I have seen this too - they all go unto the top of a lorry, and are emptied into it.

The clever thing (that you can't see) is inside there are moving plates that direct what comes in into 3 compartments - So it does stay separate inside.

It was designed like that to make the lifting bit easier, but took up less room in the lorry than 3 large areas open at the top.
