  1. Any soap product will kill any insect.  They breath through their skin and soap washes the oil off and they suffocate.  But you must spray them directly.  If you sprayed when they were not there they would just go around it and when it dried it has no effect.  I mix liquid dish soap in water in an old spray bottle.

Soap and water is no worse for your pets than it is for you.  A real thirsty dog might lap up too much so I would give them a fresh bowl of water first.  If they are really big ants they are likely carpenter ants.  You should check your foundation all around your house, they can do a lot of damage.  They like to nest in wood that has contact with the ground and is damp.  But I have found them 6' above the ground in dry stored plywood.

I wouldn't worry about the environment with windex or soap.  If you wash your car or your windows you would use much more than you will on a bunch of ants.

  2. yes

  3. Windex kills all ants on contact, but it won't phase the nests that they are living in. You can spray it wherever you want, but it won't stop the ants. Windex will harm your pets if they l**k on it so be careful.

  4. A lot of things will kill ants or any insect for that matter, but you have to think about your environmental responsibility.  First of all, it is illegal to misuse products against their labeled usage, but it gets worse.  With ants when you are treating you often times could fragment the colony.  When ants feel threatened they will sometimes split their colony for survival.  When they do this, you will have made the problem twice as bad.  Another issue is that you don't want your treatment to kill the ants on contact, you want them to carry a chemical back to the colony so that they feed the queen and workers.  Once they do that and the queen dies the colony will die off.  The queen can produce babies far faster than you can kill them so killing her will make your life A LOT easier.

  5. Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar. The ants will pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.  This is safe for pets.  I use it and it works wonders.

  6. I use 409 for all my bugs.  But it won't prevent them from coming back.  You will have to use Boric Acid powder around the foundation of the house and especially the steps.  Ok for pets, but not if it is inhaled.  I started using 409 years ago when it was the only thing handy when a huge roach came out of the woodwork.  My dogs like to chase them, and don't show any ill effects when they catch them, 'cause they bite to grab.  If you get out the towels, you can clean as you go!

  7. I had the same problem. At first, I saw just a couple carpenter ants. Then a few days later I opened my spice cupboard and there was loads! I bought those ant bait traps and put them everywhere thru the cupboards! It took days, I put all food on my kitchen table. It was a big problem, but finally they are gone. I read that ants don't like vinegar and I had washed the cupboards down with that. It took me about a week.

  8. Windex can kill big black elephant too.

  10. yes it will kill them, but you will waste so much time prising their little mouths open and making sure they swallow and dont spit it out.................

your better off using ant powder that they take back to the nest thinking its food, it then kills the whole lot of them critters.
