  1. Other than the route mentioned above it's tough to make any money at freeroll tournaments and you'd be a lot better off scraping together 50 bucks or so and then playing the micro levels to start where it would take you a long time to lose it even if you were bad and you'd get a start to your real poker education at the same time which play money doesn't do at all and in fact creates some very bad habits.

  2. You can go the freeroll route (which is long and tedious), or you can check out PokerStrategy. They offer a free $150 bankroll for many poker sites (including PokerStars). You don't have to deposit or anything. The only catch is they don't allow players from the US.

  3. I currently have a bankroll of about $70 on PS and I've never deposited a dime.  I placed in the money in a freeroll and won a buck.  I took that dollar to a real-money FL table (you need to be on PokerStars.com to do this) and won about 50 cents.  Then I entered a single table sit'n'go and won another three dollars.  Since then smart bankroll management has allowed me to slowly build up a bankroll and move up in stakes.  I mainly play the $3.00 single table s'n'g's now.  It has been a LONG process, I think I've been playing on PokerStars for about a year.  So it's possible.  But if you exercise good bankroll management it will be SLOW.  The first thing you have to do is place in the money in a freeroll.  From there just play smart and build it up.  Good luck.

  4. You can enter in freerolls in the real money section.  Basically, freerolls are large, multi table tournaments with 1-3 thousand entrants and prize pools TOTALLING $100 or more.  That is, the prize pool is the total amount of money to be distributed to the players who make it passed the bubble, not the total amount of money the winner receives.  It is a HARD thing to do, to consistently place in the money in freerolls.  But, if you are disciplined, play smart poker, and can control your emotions (as well as have a lot of time to devote to freerolls) you can accumulate money in a drawn out manner.

    Hope this helps.
