  1. Right now Sony is about to release new "core" 80GB PS3 without PS2 backwards compatibility. Current PS2 compatible 80GB is going to be phased out. Sounds like Sony is stopping PS2 compatible consoles - they are cheaper to produce.

  2. um nick, are you dumb?

at the E3 Press conference it was said that sony will be taking the NON ps2 playing model (40GB) and increase its harddrive to 80GBs.

so that will NOT play ps2 games..

but it is possible that the current 80GB which does play ps2 games, may stick around, but probably not.

The new 80GB will be released this fall (SEPT.) or OCTober maybe

  3. It may true or it may not be true, Sony has not confirmed this. Right now the only model you can get BRAND NEW is the 80 GB MGS4 Bundle that can play PS2 games.

Also the 20GB and 60GB play Playstation 2 games but are no longer sold new, only used.

  4. um thats a good question

    but from what i know

    i think they might

because theres a new ps3 version coming out

    the 80gb core

its basically the 40gb but double the gigs

and it doesnt have ps2 backward stuff lol

and the ps3 80gb out right now

    the one with MGS4

they are going to stop making it

and the 80gb core is coming out in september

but if you have ps2 games

then you can just play it on the ps2 since you have it

but i doubt youd wanna go back to the ps2 games once youve had a taste of the ps3 :D
