I hit a car in my campus parking lot the other day and I know that this happens all the time here and nothing is usually done about it but I left my information on a piece of paper on their car, cell #, insurance info, and license plate #. But now they are claiming that they didn't get any information and they found my car because of a witness. Believe me there were no witnesses, for starters it was pitch black and it had been raining all day. But I left all of the information and I drive away. It had been raining all day that day so the next day I drive back and the car wasn't there, I wanted to make sure my information wasn't lost. So at this point I had no idea what to do so i just left it. I was going to go to public safety but they never do anything anyway, I know this from experience plus I didn't know the license plate or make of the car just the color. Now they are claiming that I never left the information. What can I do?

  1. one thing for sure is that you must stick to the facts of your story and do not change them or it will cost you legally and financially.

  2. you cant do anything. tell them to takeyou to court and if you have their details and if they have yours apparntly or whatever. just go to court and say the truth and you willnot get done. you are not in iraq so you are able to fight back

  3. Were the police called?  If they were your police report will validate indirectly that you exchanged the info - the police would make sure of that.

If you didn't call the police, you learned a valuable lesson.  Always call the cops for any type of car accident, no matter how small.

  4. If they didn't get your information, as claimed, how can they accuse you as not having left it in the first place.  Just give them your insurance information, call your agent, and let the matter get settled.

  5. they would have to take you to court.

Why don't you offer to give your information now? they can still file on your insurance. and your insurance would still pay for it, I imagine.

And if they did take you to court, I would assume that they would just make you pay for the damages?

  6. i really dont know... call your insurance company maybe? that really sucks though.. sorry.

  7. Should of got a police report, just turn everything over to your insurance company and hope for the best.

  8. it possible your note blew away (or got wet)

  9. If the witness saw the accident they would have seen you stop. if he did not see the accident then it will all be circumstantial. They could be guessing as they saw you pass? Guess that you hit the other car.
