I hit a cat with my car, when i pulled over and ran to get it to take it to a vet it was gone. I looked all around and i didn't see it anywhere. I've never hit an animal before and i love cats. Is there anyway that it would've lived? My conscience is really messing with me and I cant sleep, please help.

  1. That sucks

It probably will live if it was gone

    I feel for you,

There is no real way to know for sure the extent of it's injuries

Try not to beat yourself up over it

These things happen, beyond your control

Least you stopped and were willing to help it

More than most folks would do

  2. Cats have nine lives. Don't worry about it. Even if you got it with the front and rear tire it still has seven lives left.

  3. First id like to commend you for stopping and trying to make an effort to find the kitty, there are too many people that would just keep going.

Something like this happened  to my moms cat, i saw her get hit and fly under a truck, she ran off scared  and i  couldn't find her at all, 3 days passed  and i assumed she had died but she showed up at the back door.

when she was taken to the vet she was fine except for an injured tail, cats are very resilient.

And keep in mind that you did the best you could, the fault lies with the owner for allowing the cat to run wild.

Chances are that if she was able to run away shes just scared and gone off to heal herself  or calm down. it wasn't your fault so dont let it tear you up too much, your a wonderful person for making such an effort.

  4. Don't worry...very difficult to kill a cat by only hitting it....you have to get them under the tyres. I know a cat who was hit by a car on her back..took her to the vets, gave her some stuff...now she's only got a bad back. Cats are all nerves...it acts like armor. You'd never think a cat can survive a hundred foot fall...but they do.

By the way...never hit a cat in my life..but I've gone close...actually had one go under the car and luckily missed the tyres and went on it's merry way.

  5. If the cat had disappeared, it's likely that it ran back home.  We had a very frantic lady ring our doorbell one evening saying that she had hit a cat but it ran away and jumped over our gate.  When I opened the back door, our cat ran inside without a scratch on her.  Thankfully our cat was ok and because I knew what had happened, I was able to keep an eye on her, but the main thing was that she ran for home - so hopefully if the cat did sustain an injury, it will be back home where it's owners can take it to the vets.  However, it's also possible that they won't know this has happened (perhaps the cat may have an internal injury), so you could consider putting a note through a few letterboxes near where it happened, just to try and let the cats owners know.

  6. it is very possible it lived, cats are very resistant to force if it wasnt hit by a tire, its probably fine

  7. did u check the tires? or maybe like... i dont know how to explain it... like... above the ground i guess

it depends where if you did on the tail then he would live but if it was on its head he would die and if it was on the stomache then he would die if it was on the ear (it probably wouldnt but whatever)

    he wouldnt die

if it was on the legs or palm then it would live

    ( i got 2 cats i used to have 11)

    hope i helped

  8. This is the reason pets should be kept indoors or their yards made safe for them to be kept in.  I do not understand why people get a pet and then let them run wild in the neighborhood for others to have to clean up after.  Or in this case stress a neighbor out if the pet runs into the street.
