I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee and hit the curb while parallel parking. There is no issues other than the tire got scrapped up pretty bad. There is three gashes-two which seem to just be superficial, and one that you can begin to see the threads...do I need a new tire? And if so, it is OK to drive short distances around town for a few days?

  1. i have a 03 dodge durango and did kind of the same thing thers on black rubber on parts of my tire side wall andi have been driving it like that for about a year and i drive fast and have had no problems

  2. The safest  thing to do is put the spare on and have the tire looked at. If needed ,replace it when you can . The space savers are better than suggested, your Grand Cherokee probably has a reg spare anyway.

  3. You should replace it immediately.  Side wall damage could result in a blow out.

  4. If you keep it at pretty low speeds isn't too dangerous. Take it easy when you're cornering too. It could blow at any time from what you described. Definitely get a new tire ASAP, and hopefully you have at least a space-saver, and jacking equipment?

  5. If you can see the threads you are going to need a new tire.  Side wall damage cannot be repaired.  A 2003 Jeep should have a full size spare, put it on immediately then get the bad tire replaced as soon as you have the money, prob $100 (give or take).  Change the tire it is very dangerous, don't play with your life by driving and endangering those around you.
