Was reversing out of a parking space at my workplace and hit my colleagues car which has no insurance or Tax at the moment, hence he has been leaving it there.

My question is.... Will I be able to claim from my insurance for the repairs or will I have to pay for the damage myself?

Thanks in advance

  1. Yes, your insurance should cover the cost of the repairs to his car, although of course you will lose your no-claim discount and see your premium increase.    Your third-party liability cover is for the damage you caused to the other vehicle; if you have comprehensive insurance then you will be covered for any damage to your own vehicle as well.

If the damage is only minor, then it may well be a better option to offer to pay for it yourself and not claim on your insurance.

  2. sue that car all the way, if it was on your private property, what was he doing there anyway.

  3. Yeah you will be able to claim, But you will lose your no claims discount. It would be interesting to see the extent of the damage and how he is going to get it to a repair centre. If it requires recovering the Insurance loss adjusters may want a look at it. DVLA and the Police and the Insurance company's are interlinked now via computer If it has no tax he has had to fill out a SORN declaring it off the road. I find it curious that he must have driven the car to work with insurance and tax but couldn't drive it home again eh >?? His claim and it is his claim for his car (Its not your claim for his car, your claim is for your accidental damage to your car,so you need do nothing re his claim) looks about shot to pieces to me' If I were you I would just do what you have to statutorily do and that is give him your insurance details and let him get on with it

  4. If you are covered by fully comprehensive insurance, you should be able to, regardless of whether the other vehicle is insured.  However your premium will go up and possibly lose your no claims bonus :-(
