'I hope Inter don't need me now': Jose Mourinho
Spanish giants Real Madrid’s manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out a return to his former club Inter Milan. There have been reports in the media of a possible surprise return by Mourinho, after speculation of current Inter manager, Rafael Benitez’s sacking
surfaced. Inter President Massimo Moratti has denied all such reports and insisted that Benitez has not been released and he is still in charge at Inter.
When asked about reports of his return to Inter, Mourinho said, “I have a four-year contract with Real Madrid, and I'm going to continue here for a long time. I hope that Inter don't need me now, as this would mean they have taken the wrong path.”
Last season, while at Inter, the Portuguese maestro managed the team to an extraordinary treble of Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia titles. Following the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, he made it clear that he will be leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567.
He went on to join Madrid in an attempt to win his third Champions League title. Mourinho has won the tournament twice, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in 2004 and Inter Milan.
Mourinho’s replacement at Inter, Benitez, has struggled to keep up with his predecessor. The Spaniard has failed to gain support of the fans at the club as his performance has been below average. Inter have won the Serie A 5 consecutive times in the last
5 years; but it seems that this season they will have to surrender the title.
Inter currently lie 7th on the league table, 13 points adrift from the top. The club has managed only 6 wins in 15 Serie A games. The ultimatum given by Benitez, of either supporting his ideas or sacking him, after winning the FIFA Club World
Cup final has raised questions over his future at the club.
He has continuously denied reports of him being sacked by the club and stated, “I have not been sacked. It's not true; I am surprised that it has been reported as a done thing. I am currently on holiday to rest and then to begin again.”
Despite the denial by club president and Benitez himself, media speculation continues to predict that the Spaniard’s days as the Nerazzurri boss are numbered. After Mourinho ruled out a return to the club, former AC Milan coach Leonardo has been tipped to
replace Benitez.
