  1. Most horses dont like bits because it bangs against their teeth , try not to do that. To get his mouth open just put your thumb and your index finger in there mouth from the sides and that will make him feel uncomfortable and he will open his mouth and you just slip the bridle in his mouth. Also make sure to tie him/her close to something so that he/she cant swing his/ her head and hurt you.

  2. Well what they have me do at my stables is , once you grab the bridal , put your hand under its neck - hold the bridal  with your right hand kind of at the top, on the right side of the horse . And flatten the bit straight [with your left hand] and with your left hand grab the corner of the bit stick your thumb inside the back of the horses mouth and move the bit in and the horse should open its mouth. It works for me.

    Good luck. :)

  3. the way i bridle my horse is i stand facing near his head and put my right arm over his head and through his ears. with this hand i hold the part of the bridle that goes over the ears. with the other hand i take the bit and put it up to his teeth. if he don't open his mouth i stick my finger in the side of his mouth to get the chewing response and gently push the bit in as hes chewing. fortunately i don't have to do this very often as my horse will put anything he comes across in his mouth, but it did help when i first got him and he had some issues. just make sure that you're careful. the arm through the ears is great for keeping the head down but if he's not used to it he might pull away. also don't stick you're finger all the way in the mouth. just enough so that he opens and chews a little bit. hope this helped

  4. To get them to open there mouth put your finger in the corner of there mouth and push down on there tounge we do that with our horses all the time

  5. hold the bit in your left hand (if you are on the left side of the horse) and the head stall in your right hand...and try tickling your horses tongue to get it to open up, or even some honey or mollases on the bit... once the horse lets you put the bit in its mouth, slide the headstall over!

  6. One of the horses I ride, hates wearing bits. What I do is place the reins over my left shoulder, and hold the bit/bridle in my right hand. Then I sort of pinch (not hurting her) her nose a little so she has to open her mouth. Then I slide the bit in her mouth, and finishing putting on the bridle. Its a simple and effective way I think, because shes slowly getting better at allowing me to put the bit in her mouth. Shes not fighting me anymore. Shes becoming more willing to wear the bridle.

    Hope this helps!

  7. Well you can always put your finger right in the side of their mouth when your trying to get the bit in. They dont have teeth so they cant bite you but it should make them open wide

  8. if your horse wont open his mouth touch the roof of his mouth and he will open up. Then you can just slip the bit in and you dont have to worry about hitting his teeth.
