Justin, when is a standing model an essay?  I would learn to read first....

The good news is that one excuse you can use if it doesn't work is that there are very few commercial examples that work efficiently, it is still in trials in a lot of places..

If you look at the picture in the link it should be of  Laboratory Bench Digesters - this is the object you will be trying to make.

It looks like a sealed bucket with a pipe with a tap on the end.

I guess proof would be to get rotting food in there keep it sealed til the day and then taking a sample into a previously empty bottle, then apply a taper (small bit of wood on fire) if you get an ignition (small momentary flame) ....... SUCCESS!!

Google 'methane generator' .  When you are dealing with these wastes, you don't want to have to handle them.  You rig a tank to hold them while they rot, and catch the escaping gas to burn for fuel.
