  1. Goodness, Anna!  This sounds like a parasite.  You haven't mentioned what kind of turtle it is, nor its age.

Is this a water turtle, or a land turtle?  What species and age is it?

Does "down of the turtle" mean its emerging from the vent in the turtle's tail?  And then re-entering the turtle's body?  or is it something (such as a leech) feeding on the turtle near a leg, under a shell carapace edge?

I would not take a risk with this, though it's impossible to make an educated diagnosis/guess from what you've described without further details provided.

I would recommend that you take the turtle to your reptile vet, and have its stool checked for parasites, if this 'thing' is emerging from the reptile's vent.  If it's attached to its skin, I still recommend the same thing.  If you can't get a fresh stool sample to your vet; most likely they can obtain a swab sample from the turtle.

Increased appetite can be the signs of parasites (they are depleting your turtle), or it can indicate a hormone change, and reaching breeding age.  Or it can just indicate a growth spurt for the animal.  It could be any number of things.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  2. Contact the “herpetologicalsocieties.com“.

for a reptile vet in your city and state

  3. If I understand your question right, something black is emerging and retracting from the cloaca.

If that is the case, that is the turtles sexual organ.

Which means she is actually a male.

This is normal behavior, and nothing needs to be done.
