I installed a converter box do i still need the rabbit antiana?

I imagine so because the only difference now (or rather in February 2009) is that the broadcast waves are digital instead of analog.  They still need to be picked up by your antenna.

I was told that you use the antenna through the converter box.

Yes, you need some type of antenna.  The converter needs to recieve signals over the air.  An antenna is the way to do that.
