I installed a new attic fan and it goes on and off. On for 5-10 minutes, and then off for 5 mins or so. is this normal?

  1. If it's on a thermostat it may be turning on when it gets warm and turning off because it's doing its job.  The other reason might be that it has thermal oveload protection and the motor is flawed so that it builds up heat.  Whithout looking at it I wouldn't know which it is.

  2. It depends if it comes with a thermal shut off/on switch.  When the attic temperature reaches a certain temperature it will go on until the attic temperature goes down then it will go off.  Some models come with an manual over-ride switch but most leave it on automatic.  Check you installation booklet when all else fails.  Hope this helps.

I opened my three gable slats to let the hot air out so my attic now uses the natural trades winds to cool my attic.

  3. Yes.  This is normal to the setting you have it on.  Check the humidity and heat setting you have it on and refer to the manual for the climate conditions in your area.

Mine goes off and on as well but it works wonders.  I love it.
