Question:

I installed cat5e wiring using "Type B" RJ45 jacks and Leviton Quickport connectors T568B. It does not work

I installed cat5 wiring using RJ45 connectors at one end and Leviton Quickport Connectors at the other...

The RJ 45 plugs are wired using "Type B" wiring (Brown, Brown/White, Green, Blue/White, Blue, Green/White, Orange, Orange/White). The Quickports are wired using T568B wiring... None of them work.

Did I cross wires or should I use Type A on one end and type "B" on the other? I've doubled check the placement of the RJ45's to make sure I did not hook them up backwords, it all seems good.

Any ideas?

Thanks to anybody who can help!!!

  1. Yes, you need to make one end A...it's called a crossover cable.

  2. it does not matter if you use a or b type but both ends must be the same a=a b=b.

It sounds like you created a Rolled type connection not a straight connection.

Look at the leviton plug, look for 1 color wire and match that with the rj45 starting with the tab in back starting on the left side, no2 wire etc should be next etc etc.

  3. ya, you are having a collision.  you need to start over.

  4. I had the same problem with the Leviton RJ45 jacks yesterday. I've connected both ends to A and it did not work with my regular router. However, I've tried with an auto-sense switch and the connection is working just fine. You might want to try that too.
