I installed new tweeters today for my car.. but it seems like theyve been blown again.. an amp was recconemded

can someone tell me why i would need an amp for speakers... and by not having one would it cause a speaker to blow?

  1. Now you speakers should not blow from not having an amplifier.  Most people use amps to power there speakers so that the HU does not.  Some componets and 6.5s need more power then the HU provides.  So no you don't need an amp for them but it wouldn't hurt neither woudl not having one.


  2. An amp for speakers provides clean and strong steady power to them. Its more stable than using just your stereo unit to power speakers.

    Now that having been said, your tweeters should NOT Be blowing. If your new tweeters were of a lower Watts rating then they might blow easily.

    The easiest way to fix this is install a small crossover. This will let your tweeters get only high freqencies, which is really what they should get. Without the crossover, they will get the lower frequencies that belong to bigger speakers. And this will break the tweeter.

    Get the Polk Audio Db500's I believe. Small silk tweeters, 1", come with crossovers, and are easy to setup and sound great. $50 at crutchfield.
