Toilet flushes...she runs and tries to get into the toilet...I open the kitchen sink faucet and she's there too. She tries to get into my swimming pool too. Is this a healthy habit? I find this amusing yet awkward.

  1. It's possible that somewhere along they way she went without water, so she learned to run to the water when she hears it. We have one cat that freaks out if your keys make noise in your hand. His previous owner used to throw keys at him when he misbehaved, and he learned to fear that sound.

  2. You have a cat that likes water. A water cat. My cat used to be that way when he was a kitten. Now he just puts toys in his water bowl perhaps to see if it floats or sinks...I don't really know. This is a healthy and perfectly normal habit. She is just curious and water excites her. Do you know if she has some Angora in her blood? Turkish Angora kitties love  water.

  3. find this very interesting as my 5yr old rescue cat, Misty, is very interested in running water.    When she first arrived here, she used to do her "meercat impression", standing up on her back legs with front legs poised, whenever I turned on the shower.     She sits on the bathmat each and every day while I shower.   Sometimes she jumps up onto the window ledge, and i turn the washbasin taps on and she enjoys watching and listening - fortunately, she shows no signs of wanting to go into the water but I am glad I have read your question and some answers too - as I am not too sure that it would be safe to let her into the bathroom when there was a bath full of inviting water waiting for her.    So thank you, from your particular question and some of the answers, I have more of an insight into my lovely wee cat.

  4. My cat used to do the same things. He was particularly obsessed with the drainage hole, especially after bathtime when all the water is going down. He'd swat at it as if trying to keep the water from going down. Maybe it's the sound. Cats are so dorky... I wish I still had mines but he died. :(

  5. that might be a hyper cat or crazy cat

                          {HYPER CAT}

SAVES THE DAY BY BEING CRAZY

  6. get a squirt bottle full of water, and then maybe she won't like it so much, because everytime she does that, spray her. She'll either really like it and want more, or learn not to do those things. It's worth a shot! Hope that helps!

  7. as long as she doesn't get into trouble with water, it's fine. just a unique habit of hers. you might want to cover your toilet bowls and prevent access to the pool just in case something happens. if not, there's nothing unhealthy about it, makes your life easier when you want to bathe her too!

  8. Is she a Maine Co*n? I had this issue with my Maine Co*n and the best thing I can tell you is to keep down toilet lids and don't let the cat get anywhere near the bath when it's full and unattended. My Mum filled the bath once and went to answer the phone and heard a splash and Mickey had jumped into the bath of water and was swimming around but had she gotten tired she could have drowned as the bath was deep and she couldn't get enough grip to pull herself out.

But other than water safety, count yourself lucky, your kitten sounds adorable.

  9. I think it's perfectly normal. My cat does the same thing since I got her. I always just figured it was because she was born in a bathroom and grew up sleeping in a bathroom so the water calms her..... atleast it's just water. She could be an alcoholic....lol.

  10. i don't think its unhealthy though, it might just be a phase. just be sure to keep an eye on her, cause cats aren't the best swimmers. so just be careful and watch her its not a problem, if she continues to do this just get a vet. take cat to the vet and see what they think.

  11. I have a 4 month old siamese that does that too, he also tries to jump in the shower with me, and licks the water off the doors, lol.

  12. that's so cute

my 1/2 sister's cats do the same thing..the 5 of them (she's a cat person) run into the bathroom, close the door (they push it with their heads) and then they all drink from the toilet..it's funny, but I'm not sure if it's safe..just pull your kitty away when she gets near the toilet

maybe she just likes water or something...give her a bowl of it and see what she does

  13. Strange,

Try holding her, & just swishing your hand in the water then see her reaction.

If she still goes nutz etc,

~Cover your pool with a wooden/metal thing like that so if she stands on the pool cover she won't fall in.

~ALWAYS put your toilet seat down! Leave a sign on the toilet door for guests saying, "Put the seat down!!!! Water Maniac cat in the house!!"

(Or something like that!) and close the door when you're cleaning the toilet etc.

~Put a strong peice of wood over the sink, and again a sign 4 it!

I hope this helps you, if your problems persist go 2 a vet!

  14. I have two cats (mother and daughter) and have had other cats my whole life. The daughter cat, Lily, LOVE to drink from the faucet. Both will drink from the toilet if I let them, which I don't due to the fear of there being cleaning product in the water from washing it. Many cats like running water. It must just taste better.

The mom cat, Kelly, drinks out of a glass I fill daily on the bathroom sink...
