  1. Accidents are called accidents because they arent planned, even though most of the time they happen on someones error, you cant beat yourself up over it. I've been in couple accidents and some of them you keep playing the scenario over and over wishing this happened or you did this, but you cant change what happened only what will happen, you dont need the stress, try to move on, and be a little more cautious. You can be the safest driver in the world and still get in a accident from someone elses error, we're human, its what we're good at.

  2. When you have an accident, report it to DMV within 10 days if:

*More than $750 in damage was done to the property of any person.

*Anyone was injured (no matter how slightly) or killed. **in your case it's just the injury of your friend**

Each driver (or the driver's insurance agent, broker, or legal representative) must make a report it to DMV using the Report of Traffic Accident Occurring in California.

    You must make this report:

*Whether or not you caused the accident and

*Even if it occured on private property.

Your driving privelage will be suspended:

*If you don't make this report.

*For four years, if you did not have proper insurance coverage. During the last three years of the suspensio, yur license can be returned if you provide a California Insurance Proof Certificate and maintain it during this period.

there's a bit more on this in the book talking about the accident showing up on your record if it was reported and someone was injured or $750 of damage was done to either car.

  3. JACM gave you the 411

  4. Accidents are accidents,    you made a mistake to learn from.    No matter what the person in the inside lane did,   you took the right of way from an oncoming vehicle.    If you can't see clearly,  don't go.   Never assume the other person knows what they are doing,  or that they have your best interests in mind.

For now,  let the insurance company worry about the vehicle.   Make sure your friend is OK,   might treat them to dinner once or twice.

  5. Yes many years ago and you just have to move on and be thankful it was not worse.
