the package reads that it's a 23 watt bulb but that it's equal to 100 watt incandescent bulb... can I use it in a socket that's rated at 60watt max?... Isn't the consumption 23 watts the one that matters?....

  1. Yes, it's only using 23 watts, it just puts out the same light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb.

  2. Yes, the 23 Watt consumption is what matters.  It just means that it outputs the same amount of light as a 100 Watt incandescent bulb (because it's more efficient), but it's the power consumption that matters in the appliance rating.

  3. Yes you can. The 23 is what counts. Those bulbs burn much cooler than incandescent bulbs. They are not recommended for enclosed fixtures but I have seen no problems with them.

  4. The Bulb will only draw 23 watts. the socket will handle  60 watts ,so of course you can use it.the candle power of the bulb or lumins is the light output .if you look at this number and look at the lumins for a 100 incandescent bulb it will probably be close .i have a handheld light rated at 1,000,000 candle power that works on a small 12 volt battery

  5. No, it will overpower the circuit.   Why do you think they place "maximum" ratings on things?

  6. I agree with those who say yes.  But keep in mind not to exceed 60 watts of usage per fixture.  Ie: Multiple bulbs...3 x 23=69 watts of usage.
