I just bought a 2005 vehicle, do I need an emissions test before I register it?

I think that, because it is less than 4 years old, it is exempt until next year.... correct?

  1. It all depends on where the vehicle is registered. Call your local DMV for a definitive answer.


  2. In states like Arizona, that is correct.  Others states have different requirements.  Just do a quick google search for your state's motor vehicle division.

  3. If your in California and you bought from a private party, yes you need a smog.

  4. Not positive, but I think you always have to get an emissions test before getting plates. Mine is a 2001 and I have to test it first in order to renew my plates, but since yours is pretty new I'm not sure if it's different. Check with your DMV

  5. GO TO THE CAR STORE, TO HAVE A CAR INSURANCE FIRST.

  6. Go register the car if it is requires the DMV will tell you.

  7. usually if it has a valid inspection in the same state that you register it, it should be good until it expires.
