  1. depends on the brand you bought.

panasonics are the best for plasma, and pioneer as well if you have the money.  The other brands are iffy.

eta- you don't refill the gas on a plasma tv that's a myth.

  2. How much did you spend on it?

I think the only 58 inch "plasma" tv's come from Panasonic, Samsung, and LG. Those are trustworthy companies.

But, to be honest with you...I would have gotten an LCD tv. They are more expensive but they have more benefits:

-Plasmas run on a special type of gas...plasma gas and when the gas runs out, you can't refill the tank with more gas making the tv useless. Of course the tv still can last many years even if you average like 2 hours a day.

-Another thing is if yo'ure ever gonna move or you need to move your tv in any way...you have to be extra careful to not let the tv rest flat. If you do, the tv will break. It wont snap, but the way the tanks have to be placed they must stay that way. It has to stand straight at all times. An LCD can be held in anyway...upside down, flat, etc

-When I go to stores like BestBuy and I look at the tvs, i honestly think that LCD's have a better picture quality than plasmas.

Now LCDs are more expensive especially when you get into the 52 inch + sizes. There are LCDs with 60 inches but those can cost up to 10 grand.

The best way to make sure that you made a good choice is compare prices with other same sized tvs.

-Find the number of HDMI outlets there are for your HDMI cables (you'll need those since everything is turning digital)

-Look for the contrast ratio. Since you got a big tv it should be a big number. At least 10:000 to 1 contrast ratio.

-Make sure its from a trustworthy company...like i said it'srobably one of the companies i mentioned earlier.

-Also...There are other tvs like DLP's which can have even bigger screens, i think the largest one as of now is 73 inches from mistubishi and thats probably the same price as your 58 inch. DLPs are not thin like plasmas and LCDs but they are flat screens that produce the same HD signals. The downside is that they are fatter and the pictures color is not always clear from all angles. They usually have a certain angle where the picture is perfect but as you move close the side the picture darkens. But they are very cheap and they have big screens if not bigger than that of an LCD or plasma

but like i said earlier, just compare other tvs with yours if youre not so sure.

  3. Depends on the TV. If you don't know any thing about TVs than you probably got ripped off.
