I just bought a 6'0 surfboard. Do you think that's too short for me?

I'm 5'5 and 130 lbs. I've gone surfing before but i'm basically a beginner.

Yes, it's too short for a beginner. You should be learning on a 7 to 8 foot board. A funboard with a rounded nose will make paddling and catching waves easier too. I'm very close to your size and weight and learned on a 7'11 Waterhog. I was up and riding on my first day. I still have it and use it on flat days in Florida. While I'm not advocating Al Merrick, check out the thickness, width, and shape. You can find something close to it that won't break the piggy bank like a Merrick.

you can make it work, it may be hard at first but it is do able, just don"t give up. have fun.

You need a board that will float you well enough for you to take off (paddle and catch a wave). Most people learn best on long boards, although I have seen lots of surfers start on a short board and master it. There are no RULES for learning how to surf.

I'd have to say yeah it's too short but try it out you never know

Get a longer board so you can start catching waves sooner.  Ditch the shortboard for a while and when you get board of the long board then switch it up to a shorter board.

Surfing=fun=catching waves=start on a longboard

If you're really into the whole surfing thing, then starting on a short board means no loosing time when you make the switch from long to a short board. my friend chandler learned on a really short board and she's on the USA team now. Everyone's different. I wish i learned on a short board so i didn't waste time long boarding just to get "the hang of surfing" especially since it's so different and really didn't help my short boarding too much. I'd stick to the short board if I was you.

ya it's alittle big. but ya know what some people can learn on short boards. goos luck not much ya can do now!
