  1. I bought a packaged corn beef and cooked it in a Slow Cooker on High for 5 hours.  Cooked the corn beef sitting on top of a layer of carrots, potato chunks and onion halves without water.  My packaged corn beef came with a packet of spices which is all I added to the food mix.  Hope this helps you, mine came out soft enough to eat without a knife.

  2. put it in a pot and cover it in water add a few onions (quartered), dont add salt because the butcher has already pickled it in salt. simmer it slowly until meat is tender. should take a few hours. i put mine in a slow cooker at 9 and its usually done by bout 3. serve it with loads of white sauce.mmmmm tastes like home =)

  3. cook in salted boiling water for 55mins, use enough water to cover the beef. its generally 1hr per kilogram. as water evaporates add more to ensure the beef remains covered. its hard to go wrong. Good luck & enjoy.

  4. the important thing is to not cook it too quickly.... the key is slow and it will be beautiful and tender. start off with cool water with the meat in and bring it to the boil.  then turn it down to a simmer and cook it.

i like to cut up and onion and put that as well as a few whole cloves in the water which adds a gorgeous flavour.  also corned beef MUST be served with white sauce!

good luck. if you have any troubles, ring your mum!

  5. yeah just put it in a pan until its hot and its all in its little peices...serve it with eggs during breakfast

  6. No fail.    Put the corned beef in pot or slow cooker with enough water to cover the meat. Chop an onion into quarters and add with some black peppercorns, 2 tblspn brown sugar and a dash of vinegar.  Definately DON'T add salt as there is plenty in the meat.

The slow cooker is great as it will definately be tender, and you can put it on in the morning and not worry until 6 hours later (on slow or 4 on high)  No more than an hour if on stove top.  If I don't want any complaints from my 6 kids then I cook this, well there is a complaint if they want more and there is none left.  I enjoy it with tomato relish (home made)    Give it a go!

  7. Corned Beef.

Rinse the beef and place in a pot with sufficient water to cover

Add a little vinegar, an onion,  and a little pickling spices & pepper corns. (optional)

Bring to the boil and reduce heat to a gentle simmer.

Simmer for 30 minutes per 500gm (lb)

Let rest for 20 percent of the cooking time and carve across the grain.

I would suggest you begin 90 minutes before you want to start carving, or even a little earlier.

  8. Boil it!  Or, alternately you can throw it in your slow cooker (crock pot) with some beef broth (enough to cover it), potatoes, carrots and cabbage for a very delicious meal...with little effort on your part!  I haven't had corned beef in a while, now I want some.

    Good luck!

  9. Cover your corned beef completely in water so it's floating off the bottom of the pan (with a lid).  Bring it up to a boil and then turn it down to simmer.  I normally skim off the surface after it's been boiling for a few minutes to get most of the scum off.  Then I let it simmer for 3 to 4 hours.  Then I remove the brisket and drain it but keep about 1 to 2 pints of the simmering water.  Line the bottom of the dutch oven with cabbage wedges and add sliced carrots and halved or quartered potatoes, put the brisket back on top and add the reserved liquid.  Then I put it in a medium hot oven (350 F) for about 1 1/2 hours to cook the veggies and finish cooking the brisket.

If a packet of seasoning came with your brisket, add that at the beginning.  You don't have to do anything other than bringing it up to boil and then simmering it, but we love the cooked veggies with it when it's first cooked.  Leftover veggies can be coarsely chopped and then fried to make a red flannel hash!

Don't forget the mustard when you serve your corned beef!

  10. All these answers are decent answers...I've done it in a crock pot on low for 5-6 hours, and I've also boiled it (enough water to cover the piece of beef, replacing periodically).  The only difference to any of the suggestions already presented is, and I know this is going to sound odd, but add in a fair measure of light brown sugar (2 cups by US standards).  I learned it from a gentleman who owned a restaurant that served up many different iterations of corned beef, and believe it or not, it really is good!  Never made it any different since, and it gets raves every time I make it.
