Can someone familiar with this gun explaine to me the single/double/double action only mechanism on this gun? I've only handled glocks. How do I set my gun in the position to fire all these different ways and what's the point?

  1. glock trigger is best described as a 'partial double action'

anyways, single action trigger does one thing, drop the hammer.  Hence, the hammer needs to be ****** already

double action means pulling the trigger will c**k the hammer AND drop the hammer.

Benifits of double action trigger...it takes a long pull, usually 12-16lbs, to get the gun to fire, so firing it accidentally is unlikely, but at the same time to fire it in an emergency you can do it without worrying about deactivating a safety, just point and pull the trigger...you can even do it with one hand.

Single action trigger.  Remember, a semiauto handgun (unless modified to prevent it) will recock the hammer every time the slide cycles, so while you are actually shooting the first shot may be double action but all subsiquent shots are single action.  A single action trigger pull is normally just 5-8lbs, and the triggerpull itself is shorter.  This means you can shoot faster, and can shoot more accurately as you aren't fighting against a big weight.

the risk is, say you are a police officer.  You draw your gun, suspect shoots at you, you pull hard on the double action trigger and shoot back. then the next 3 shots are single action, which are quicker and easier to aim.  The suspect surrenders, so you point your gun at him and order him to lie on the ground.  But now you have just been in a gunfight, your hands are shaking you have adrenalin pumping through your veins....you sure you want a 5 lb trigger now?

That's why many guns have 'decockers' on them, by hitting the decocker you decock the hamner, and now you have to pull 15lbs for the gun to fire, making it less likely to fire in a stressful situation.

Some people say that a hard double action pull at first is dumb because it makes the first shot too hard, and you should just use a single action only semiauto carried '****** and locked'

Some peolple say that while a hard double action pull at first isn't the greatest, switching to somethign different after the first shot means that most time spent on the shooting lane is spent practicing something OTHER THAN first shot shooting...and you really want your first shot to count.  They advocate "DAO" or Double Action Only, where the hammer is modified to not let itself be ****** by the slide, so every shot needs a 15lb trigger pull.

Others say the combination of 15 to start 5 to win is the best.

    I say bring a rifle
