  1. You've got to be careful and plan ahead. depending on your new hardware this may or may not be as easy as you may think. Some of the newer hardware doesn't have drivers for XP! There are some very informative articles on the web about "upgrading from Vista to Xp" just do a search for that and don't get it the other way around. Have you considered upgrading to XP-Pro 64 bit? Well, good luck. Here are a few of the better articles on doing this. I don't know nor have I met anyone who prefers vista over XP-Pro. So I think you are doing the right thing, but realize that XP-Pro will not be supported past about the end of 2009. Have you considered a mac? I hear that what is to follow Vista is even worse! Without Bill at the helm MS is pretty much going to disintegrate... probably a good thing for consumers.

  2. As long as you have a valid copy of Windows XP, you should be able to delete the partition and reformat. However, you need to be sure that you can get drivers for Windows XP for your hardware. Back when Vista launched, this wasn't really a problem as most hardware was already compatible.

You also need to make sure that you can reinstall Vista if anything goes wrong. This means making sure you have the OEM Vista install disc, or an option to create a backup DVD using the restore software that came with your computer.

I've heard some people needing to run Kill Disk and remove the Vista partition before being able to install Windows XP. I've never tried it as I like Vista >.>

  3. Why don't you resize or create another partition and have a dual boot: Vista/XP?

  4. To go back to xp just insert your xp disk and boot from the cd drive or dvd drive, after installed i would sudgest you to go get Driver Detective from http://www.drivershq.com/

This will find all the missing drivers on your pc and make everyone run smooth.

    Hope this helps
