I just bought a brand new 09 scion tc. I was in love with it when i bought it but i can't stand it now. The car now has exactly 300 miles on it and it had 45 on it when I bought it. Do you think they would take it back? I'm sure if I did I would have to pay something, do you know about how much? Please help, I spent the money I received in the settlement from my father's death and can't barely stand the thought of driving something I don't like when i used that money. Any suggestions at all?

  1. Once you signed the papers and drove off the lot, it officially became "used". If you take it back to the dealer, they'll only give you wholesale market value on it. So, in essence, you'd lose thousands of dollars. The dealer has to sell it as used, and has to absorb the depreciation and costs associated with getting it back up for sale.

You can try, however. Worst they can do is say "no".

  2. I think if you take it back to your dealer and you find another car they have on thier lot,( more expensive ) they will allow you close to full purchase price towards a new car. You do have some legal rights if you were pressured into buying it from a sales person. I feel they will work with you, as long as you buy another car from them.  Selling it out- right, you will lose alot !

Good luck !!   Let us know the outcome !

  3. If you bought it a week ago...you sould be able to take it back and get somthing els... ummm you might take a loss in value but you sould be able to give it back some dealerships have diffrent policys on things....

  4. You can't really take it back without taking a huge hit on the trade-in value because it's now a "used" car since it was titled in your name, regardless of whether or not it only has 300 miles on it.

You might have better luck selling the car outright by yourself for ~$500-1000 less than you paid for it etc., than to try and trade it back in at the dealership.  Otherwise, if you take it back you're probably going to have to eat several thousand dollars in depreciation loss from driving the new car off the lot and making it a used car.

  5. Talk to your salesman. If you buy from the same dealership, the may take it back at full value. Otherwise, it's already devalued some.
