Question:

I just bought a magic jack?

When I registered for a number, I could not use my home state, so I had to choose a TX number. And then when I tried to call my "magic jack number" from my regular one, it said it was a long distance call. Are my family and friends going to be able to call me on that line? Did I do something wrong? Do they have to have a magic jack in order to call us?

  1. I ordered a Majic Jack- it never did work and there was no phne number to call them nor an address to write to them. I called my credit card company before the month trial was up and cancelled it.

  2. I too just bought one. To answer your question, You get to choose from the list of numbers that the dominate carrier allowed to be released to magicjack. I am in SW Ohio, there are no SW Ohio or Kentucky area codes available. I chatted with MJ, they claim they are working on this issue and when they free up the NPA-NXX I will be ale to change my number.

The good side effect is that I can have a "local number" in an area that I do not live.

Yes, your friends need to call a long distance number if they are local, the telco does not know you are across town and not across the country.

So yes, they need to make a LD call or use a MJ or a cell phone with unlimited LD access.

  3. yes...its LD but you can get a free number from ja-jah with your area-code...so your family don't have to pay LD to call you!!!

its like GrandCentral.com   but they dont give out anymore free numbers!

  4. they are adding area codes all the time, so keep checking, they should allow you a one time change free of charge if your area code was not available once they have numbers available within that area code...

since you choose an area code outside of your local calling area anyone calling into your MJ number will be charged long distance...

You can get grandcentral and have the GC number forward to your MJ (i think there is a temporary hold on new members at GC, check there site http://grandcentral.com
