So I bought a mattress and they loaded it on my trailor. It was wrapped in thick plastic so I strapped it down and drove home. It downpoared on the way home but I wasn't too concerned because it was wrapped, beside I had no place to go and take cover anyway. When I got home and unloaded it there was a big tear in the bottom of the wrapping that was face down on the trailor. Of course the water got through the hole and completely soaked the mattress. I have it inside resting on a tarp and the ceiling fan blowing on them. Is my mattress ruined? I did call and leave a message with the place I purchased it from. Are they responsible because they loaded it with a rip in and I never knew that? I just hate the fact I just spent $1200 and my mattress could be ruined or get moldy. Any thought on this?

  1. Your responsible for the water damage.

I would first of all put a lot of towel on matterass and walk around on it to remove excess water. Then fans plus air conditioner. Or if hot outside place it outside. This may take days but keep the fan on at all times.

I forgot to mention your homeowners insurance probably cover the cost.

  2. Definately don't put sheets on it yet. That really sucks! It's good what you're doing. Try putting it on the floor later, put a towel over where it's wet, and gently push with your hand to soak up what's caught in between the mattress.

It should be ok. I'm not sure if the store is liable, they most likely will be nasty with you and say they can't control the weather or whatnot.

I hope it dries out nicely for you. Sorry to hear the news!

  3. well if you don't treat it properly than yeah its ruined
