  1. I believe the camera you own captures in a non-stanard or at least newer format then what many programs/systems will support, especially if you have older versions of that software.  You should have had some software come with the camera. Software to capture with and possibly a driver for the camera too. According to the Canon website, the software your looking for that should come with the camera is Corel WinDV.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem downloadable off the Canon website. They do have some sort of photo viewing utility and the pdfs instructions for your camera as well as WinDV, but no downloads for it.  If you lost your copy of WinDV, try getting in touch with Canon about a replacement. Otherwise there may be freeware software on the internet that you can use.

  2. That is a hard drive based camcorder. You do not "import" the video like with a firewire connected miniDV camcorder. As a USB device, it whould mount and you copy the video files like when you use other USB mass storage devices.

In high-definition mode, it records using AVCHD compression. Neither MovieMaker nor Nero can do anything with those files. Even Sony Vegas can't do anything with Canon-AVCHD. Adobe Premier might be able to.

Video quality for editing is not very good. AVCHD compresses too much. MiniDV tape recording in HDV provides best video quality.

  3. You need to get the proper program for your computer, write to Canon and tell them your computer model and camera model and they should be able to help you.
