I just bought this Ovation briddle and I got my trainer to oil it and to darken it up but when she gave it back to me it was very very oiled. I have tried to de-oil it with a rag but it dosn't seem to be helping. What should i do?

  1. When you start using it the oil will naturally rub off on its own over time.(especially if your riding in wet weather etc)  Also the oil will help prolonge the life and keep your leather strong and supple.   I would just leave it as it is.

  2. Just leave it like it is, the oilyness will back off once you start using it and soaping it after each and every time you use it. You could try washing it now with good saddle soap, this will break down the excess oil and allow you to wash some of it off. You can also try "flexing" it over and over at each different section and this could help the oil work its way in (but from what you described its pretty soaked in now). Just try washing it before you use it and that should help some. Good Luck!

  3. i agree with the above... Daniel Z... anyway like he said

make it do the wave.... it helps it soak in...

our trainer does the same thing... just wipe it with a rag... and wiggle it a lot... also soap it and condition it every time it gets sweaty...

  4. Wash it with some mild diluted dish soap or saddle soap after each use. You want your bridle oily to keep it from cracking and wearing out, so oily is rather good.

  5. oily is a good thing. This keeps the tack from drying out.  Are the reins oily?  That's the only thing to really be worried about.  I mean if they're too oily to even hold on to then we've got a problem.

Okay i know it sounds quite weird but try it i swear it works: a tooth brush and warm water.

yeah i know you're thinking what the heck right now but tooth brushes work amazingly at removing oily especially from bridles.  Since toothbrushes are not made out of any fabric, they absorb the oil better and are easily cleaned to remove the oil from the toothbrush in order to get more off the bridle.

Try it ... it works :]

Best of luck to you and your bridle :]

  6. Leaving it would do but if you need it straight away just tag a rag over it for a while and that should do it

    Goodluck

  7. please, do like this. OK.. keep it in a hot water up to 2-3 minutes. and take it out. all oily things will goes
