  1. it takes time.handle it alot try playing with it.treat him nice.dont let him get atttacted to his cage.handle him regurly.feed him treats and he will begin to like you soon.

  2. the green cheek is just not sure of you yet give the baby a Chanceh step up is very primary training you have to have patientsts

  3. Responsible people don't exchange pets.  You're lucky you have a new bird who already sits on you; they're usually scared at first, and for good reason.  As small prey animals, parrots do not trust new people immediately.  It takes a lot of patience, and as you take the time to bond with your bird, either it will eventually decide to accept petting or it won't (some birds just don't like it), but will make up other ways to entertain you and show affection.  Either way, a good pet parent will love their pets no matter what and accept their personalities.  Conures live a long time, too, so what's the rush?

  4. I am assuming here that because the bird is able to fly that it was not hand reared- it will take a bit of time for him to settle down.

You could start by having his wing clipped- alot of people think its cruel but it is so much safer for the bird if he is allowed out of his cage- plus it should definately make him more handleable.

Give him a day or two to settle into your new home and talk to him while he is inside his cage. Play little games like peek-a-boo with him to see how much he interacts with you. My birds love that game!

It is good that your bird is stepping up on command- that is a great starting point. You should probably wait a little while before you let him on your shoulder as it is a dominant position and unless he knows you are the boss he can cause problems there (when I first got my quaker he was convinced my shoulder was a perch and my head was a big bird taking up most of the perch... he kept biting my neck to get the big bird off his perch lol)

While he is on your hand try to gently bring your other hand up to him, and gauge his reaction- leave it close to him and see if he comes over to you- then you can try to gently scratch him. Once he knows how enjoyable it is it wont take long for you to become inseperable! good luck!!
