  1. Well since you just bought a new house money might be tight and usually the home owner throws the party.  I recomend you do a pot luck and have everyone bring there favorite dish.  Its a win win situation.  Also i've seen at house warming partys a white elephant gift exchange that way everyone gets something new for there home!!

  2. pizza is always the answer

  3. house warming are usually hosted by the new home owners/renters.

I would keep the menu to finger foods such as a fruit and veggie tray, meatballs, crab balls, crackers and cheese, chips and dip

  4. when I bought my home, I hosted my own housewarming party with plenty of food and drinks.  I also put a list of things I needed and a list of things I didn't need. example: things needed trashbags, candles, glade air freshners, soappowder.  things I didn't need pictures, curtains, etc...

  5. When I bought my house, I invited everyone to an Open House party...I served mini sandwiches, green salad with all the fixings, a fruit platter, and a tray of cookies/brownies/lemon squares.  I had a big pitcher of lemonade, iced tea, and bottled water.  Most people brought me housewarming gifts even though I didn't expect it.

    Good luck!

  6. if you expect gifts, then a friend should come up with the idea and do all the planning.  If you just want your friends and family to share in your excitement and see the house, then you throw the party, and provide plenty of food and drink, and request "no gifts please".   High end finger foods should be served, not just chips and dip.

  7. Every house-warming party I have ever been to has been organized by the homeowners themselves.   You dont need to organized speacific activities or games, though it is a good idea for any party to have something that brings pelp together to interact.   The weather is getting warmer,  I would suggest a nice barbecue if you have a back your that allows for it,  Maybe a grill some hamburgers and hotdogs, but make sure you also open the inside of your home to your guests.    Have fun!

  8. buy a rachael ray book because she knows what to do in that kind of situation and with her recipes, they only are 30 minutes!

  9. I always thought that you would provide the food, as if you were having a regular party, but people would bring you a gift for the house.  I would serve appetizer foods and cocktails, pass around foods, not a heavy dinner.

  10. hi there,

Congrats on your new house!!  A housewarming party is usually thrown by the person who brought their house unlike the baby shower which is thrown by a friend or family member.

Your home is the main attraction so you don't need to plan lots of activities to keep your guests amused. They will be far more interested in touring your house than in playing party games at this time.

    Invitations:

When you issue invitations to this party, make sure to give good driving instructions.  After all, this is the first time many of your family and friends will be visiting your new home.

Housewarmings are often casual events.  You can issue an  "open house invitation stating a date with a range on hours that guests are invited to drop by or a certain set time.  Formal invitations are unnecessary.

    Tour of new home:

--   If you plan to conduct the tours, you'll need someone to act as host, answering the door, welcoming your guests, and making them comfortable until the next tour begins.

--  You can assign a close friend or family member to act as tour guide for you.

--   You can allow guests to give self-guided tours. In that case, you might want to give your guests a floor plan of your home. Label each room with its name, purpose and any interesting details you'd like to show off.

--   If you've made extensive renovations to your home, post a "before" picture outside each room. You could also post pictures taken of the rooms while under construction. People love to see the magical transformation.

--   This is one occasion where, if cleaning is one of your priorities, you should clean all of your rooms. Ignore this suggestion if your party is taking place while your boxes are still packed. Then anything goes!

    Food:

Finger foods are perfect while guests will be walking about and inspecting your new home.

    Such as:

    Deviled eggs

    7 hard-cooked eggs

    2 tablespoons mayonnaise

    1 scant teaspoon prepared mustard

    salt and pepper

    paprika, optional

6 pimiento stuffed olives, cut in half crosswise

    Directions

Cut 6 of the hard cooked eggs in half lengthwise. Scoop yolks out of egg halves. Press yolks and remaining whole hard cooked egg through a sieve into a small bowl. Stir in mayonnaise and mustard; season to taste with salt and pepper.

Sprinkle with a little paprika, if desired, and top each devilled egg half with an olive half, cut side up.

    coconut crusted fried shrimp:

24 uncooked jumbo shrimp (about 1 1/2 pounds), peeled, deveined, tails left intact

    1/3 cup cornstarch

    3/4 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

    2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

    3 large egg whites

    Vegetable oil (for deep-frying)

    Directions:

Using small sharp knife and starting at top of inward curve just below tail, butterfly shrimp, cutting each more than halfway through toward outward curve (do not cut shrimp in two). Open each shrimp (as for book) and press slightly to flatten. Mix cornstarch, salt and cayenne in medium bowl. Place coconut in pie dish. Beat egg whites in another medium bowl until frothy. Dredge shrimp in cornstarch mixture; shake off excess. Dip shrimp into egg whites, then press shrimp into coconut; turn shrimp over and press into coconut again to coat both sides.

Pour enough oil into heavy large pot to reach depth of 2 inches; heat to 350°F. Working in batches, add shrimp to hot oil; deep-fry until cooked through, about 1 minute. Using tongs or slotted spoon, transfer shrimp to paper towels to drain. Arrange shrimp on platter. Serve with Pineapple-Apricot Salsa for dipping.

    Pineapple Apricot Salsa:

1 cup finely chopped peeled cored fresh pineapple

1/2 cup finely chopped red onion

    1/2 cup apricot-pineapple preserves

    1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

    2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

1 1/2 tablespoons minced seeded jalapeño chili

    Directions:

Toss all ingredients in small bowl to blend. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.)

    Stuffed cherry Tomatoes:

    36 cherry tomatoes

1 package (8oz) cream cheese, softened

1 tablespoon dry Italian salad dressing mix

    2 tablespoons milk

    3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

    Directions:

Place tomatoes stem-side down; cut an x in each, to about 1/4-inch from the bottom of each tomato. Spread carefully to open the wedges without breaking. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, dressing mix, and milk.

Blend well. Fill each tomato with about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle tops with chopped parsley. Refrigerate for up to 6 hours before serving.

    Champagne Punch:

12 oz frozen fruit punch, partially thawed

    10 oz frozen strawberries

    2/3 cup orange juice

    2 Tbsp lemon juice

    24 oz ginger ale

    1 qt Champagne

    3 cups water

    Directions:

    1.  place a frozen ice ring in a punch bowl.

    2.   Add the fruit punch, water, strawberries, and juices.

    3.   Stir to dissolve the punch.

    4.    Slowly pour in the ginger ale and Champagne.

    Gifts:

Do not expect gifts. Although gifts are customary, they should never be expected. The good wishes of your friends should be enough.

    Decorations:

Special party decorations are unnecessary. You don't want to detract from the features of your new home.  A few cheery floral arrangements will be more than enough.

  11. Congrats!

It really depends what you want, some people ask people to bring stuff and others just buy the stuff themselves.

There are always a lot of appetizers like:

    deviled eggs

    chips

    salsa

dips, like spinach dip, ranch, 7 layer dip.....etc

    cheese squares

    salami, meats

I really like doing BBQ's it's very fun, plus you can make hamburgers, hot-dogs for the little ones, steak for the grown ups, shrimp skewers and even grill some corn on the cob....there are many things.

    Enjoy! = )

  12. Just have a "Party" not a 'house warming' and provid snacks, ask them to bring alchol!!
