Question:

I just bought a portable air conditioner and I'm confused, can anyone help?

So I've had portable air conditioners before and I know how they work, except this ones a little different.

Where the big hose attaches to the air con unit, there's a long black tube inside (where the hot air gets vented).

Am I supposed to direct the tube to the window? The instructions don't even mention the black tube, since it's a general instruction booklet for multiple units. Please help.

Best answer goes to first person who is able to help me :D

THANKS!

  1. When the A/C runs, it will remove humidity from the conditioned air, and this humidity will condense into water.  The black tube is for draining the water and should be angled downward from the A/C toward a drain or bucket that you can empty as needed.

Most "portable" air conditioners I've seen are free-standing units that sit on the floor.  If that's the kind you have, then chances are, you don't want to drain it out your window unless your windows are lower than your floor.  ;)

  2. i just bougth my first A/C in the windwo type and that black tube needs to be possitions downwards to let the much and liquid slip outside and NOT intot he house, it has to ber as a angle! trust me mine runs great that way!

  3. Direct it to the window just to be safe :P

  4. Yes, the black hose needs to be vented outdoors.
